Neuroophthalmology

Neuroophthalmology is a branch of medicine that studies the treatment of visual impairments resulting from diseases of the brain. Such disorders can be divided into loss of vision or problems with eye movements. Loss of vision can result from pathology of the optic nerve or pathology of the visual centers of the brain. Eye muscle problems are also often associated with an oculomotor nerve pathology. In addition, there are several areas of the brain that are associated with precise control of eye movements.

Neuro-ophthalmologist assesses the condition of the retina, chiasm, optic nerves, pathways of the central nervous system, establishes the relationship between the cause of visual impairment and changes in the central nervous system.

Neuroophthalmology focuses on diseases of the nervous system that affect vision, eye movement control, or pupil reflexes. Among the causes of diseases of the optic tract are infections, genetic abnormalities, circulatory disorders, rheumatic diseases, etc.
