Lazy Eye (Amblyopia)

Among the visual impairments, one of the most dangerous eye diseases is amblyopia (lazy eye). It occurs, both in childhood and adulthood. If it is not detected in time, the consequences can be irreparable, up to a complete loss of visual perception.

Amblyopia is a defection of the binocular function of the visual apparatus without structural changes in the fundus. With this dysfunction,  decrease in visual acuity occurs, due to the unequal work of both eyes – one of them is not fully or partially involved in the process of vision.

Causes of Amblyopia

  • Heredity
  • Anisometropia
  • Refractive errors
  • Pathologies that disrupt the passage of light rays
  • Anxiety disorders
