About Corneal Diseases

Corneal diseases are quite common and always require timely treatment. There are various eye diseases that affect the cornea. The main pathologies of the cornea ar keratitis, xerophthalmia, keratoconus, keratomalacia, bullous keratopathy, corneal dystrophy.

Biomicroscopy: It is used for binocular examination of the cornea and other structures of the anterior segment. Light beams of varying thicknesses are directed from different angles for magnification of the biomicroscope and the cornea can be examined. This is the most common examination method that is used routinely.

Diagnosis of corneal diseases includes the following is carried out by the following examinations:

• Keratometry
• Topography
• Pachymetry
• Specular microscopy
• Esthesiometry
• Corneal staining
